Description:
Develop, implement and support corporate industrial hygiene programs designed to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace health hazards within Kohler Co.'s various operations. Provide assistance and guidance as needed to all areas of the company in order to minimize health hazards and achieve regulatory compliance with National, Regional, and Local regulations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
DEPARTMENT AND PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION
A. Maintain focus on activities at all times to perform duties in a safe and deliberate manner.
B. Participate in departmental planning efforts related to such things as training, manpower planning, strategic plan, financial plan, etc.
C. Develop and write Authorized Corporate Transactions (ACT) in conjunction with project management re¬sponsibili¬ties as they relate to the department capital plan.
D. Participate in Maximizing Performance review process.
E. Coordinate priorities and work to be done with the group's other industrial hygienist.
INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PROGRAM
A. Develop and implement specific industrial hygiene programs and related training to address health and compliance concerns at Kohler Co.'s various facilities. This may include such things as hazard commu¬nica¬tion, respirators, hearing conserva¬tion, specific chemical sub¬stances, etc.
B. Investigate accidents, injuries, illnesses, complaints and special requests. Report results and recommendations to manage¬ment.
C. Coordinate and conduct industrial hygiene monitoring surveys to identify sources of exposure and means for abatement. Report results and recommendations to management.
D. Provide technical support, when requested and as needed, for the abatement of health hazards in the workplace.
E. Develop and implement industrial hygiene exposure monitor¬ing schedules to ensure appropriate evaluation of personal exposures to physical and chemical agents in the work¬place.
F. Coordinate the entry of informa¬tion into the indus¬trial hygiene database.
G. Coordinate IH equipment calibration and maintenance. Purchase IH equipment and consumable sampling media.
I. Identify personal protective equipment needs throughout the various Kohler Co. operations and develop guidelines for proper use.
J. Provide technical support to the EHS Program Coordinators as necessary to meet the needs of the facilities they service.
K. Coordinate industrial hygiene sample analyses with the C&M Labora¬tory and external laboratories.
L. Participate in engineering project review process for proposed projects and material changes to identify possible industrial hygiene concerns and to provide guidance on same.
M. Assist in the deployment and implementation of the Kohler Safety Management System (KSMS) and the KSMS performance evaluation audit.
N. Provide guidance to manufacturing facilities for purchase of IH equipment, setting up databases for IH data, proper handling and analysis of IH data and writing IH reports.
O. Assist with training and coordination for EHS Safety Summits.
P. Develop MSDS for company made products (e.g. Pottery slip)
OSHA COMPLIANCE
A. Periodically assist with OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping.
B. Coordinate OSHA industrial hygiene inspections. Track cita¬tions, and manage abatement projects.
C. Develop and implement new programs in response to new OSHA regula¬tions.
D. Provide regulatory interpretation and technical support to produc¬tion, maintenance and engineering areas as needed to ensure compli¬ance with regulations.
SPECIAL SUPPORT
A. Provide technical and investigative support to the Medical Department, Labor Relations Department and Workers Compensation.
B. Share safety on-call responsibilities and respond to emergencies when notified. Provide investigative support and technical guidance as necessary to abate emergency conditions, identify causal factors and initiate preventive measures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a BS degree in industrial hygiene, environmental health, or other closely related area of study, and a minimum of 2 - 4 years of related experience. Masters Degree in industrial hygiene and/or CIH are pre¬ferred, but not required.
