PETCO has an opportunity for a Merchandising Analyst to perform specialized high-level analyses for PETCO's Category Management Organization. Assist the Merchandise Management group with making sound business decisions, both strategic and tactical in nature. Produce various reports to analyze trends and forecast vital performance measures with a focus on sales, margin and inventory statistics and other merchandising statistics and metrics for assigned categories. Research and analyze sales trends, history, revenues, inventory, and other business components to forecast business needs and trends. Partner with appropriate members of the category management team to ensure a collaborative and consistent approach is taken towards the business strategies and/or imperatives.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or Economics, and 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible, professional experience preferably in a major retail environment that includes the ability to analyze category, product and inventory data; build financial models, perform budgeting/financial assumptions, “what-if” scenarios and make sound business recommendations. Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and presentation skills are necessary due to the nature and level of interaction with peers and management. Proven advanced ability to use applications within Microsoft Office suite as well an advanced ability to extract and analyze data from databases and make appropriate recommendations having significant margin impact. Working knowledge of Minitab, APT or other statistical software requiredl. Strong project management skills and leadership skills are required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
