PETCO has an exciting opportunity for a Store Auditor to perform various audit projects at the stores, distribution centers, National Support Center, and other locations. Review and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the system of internal controls and the reliability and integrity of operational information, the safeguarding of Company assets, and compliance with PETCO policies and procedures. Up to 80% overnight travel to various stores and other locations is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct complex audits of PETCO stores, National Support Center and other locations for compliance to policies and procedures as prescribed by management. This involves observation of store operations, interviews with management and other Associates, performing tests of transactions, examining appropriate records and documentation, and evaluating the effectiveness of operating methods.
Determine that established policies and procedures are adequate and are being followed. Recommend improvements to policies and procedures and assist in the development of audit methodologies.
Ensure that financial/operational information and supporting documentation are complete and accurate. Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls for safeguarding Company assets.
Identify and quantify concerns and risks resulting from the use of existing methods and controls.
During the course of audit fieldwork, prepare/review all workpapers to document audit procedures and audit conclusions.
Assist in performing follow-up reviews to verify that necessary corrective actions have been implemented to correct previously identified internal control weaknesses.
Perform special projects as assigned by Internal Audit management.
Education/Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) qualification is desired. Qualified candidates will possess a solid understanding of general business practices and a minimum of two years audit or four years operations management experience, preferably in retail environment. Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills (oral and written) are required due to the nature of involvement and interaction with associates at all levels of the organization. Intermediate level understanding of Microsoft Excel and Word required. Up to 80% overnight travel to various stores and other locations is required.
