BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Director-Vitreous Process Engineering, Global Vitreous Operations , fully support the vitreous Color and Artist Editions NPS, improve the glaze processes at each of the Kohler Co. Vitreous potteries globally to improve yields, and lastly support other ceramic engineering projects within each pottery, to improve capability. Global travel required 75% of the time. Bachelor of Science Degree in Ceramic Engineering (or equivalent) is required with at least 3 years of manufacturing experience in Whitewares glazes and color control.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Act as the Vitreous Manufacturing representative on all new color and artist edition NPD project teams and in that capacity ensure the introduction of those new products on time to support the Kohler NPS, leading and supporting Advanced Development projects.
2.Research and Evaluate current Glaze / Color processes to drive consistency through all plant locations globally.
3.Direct the product and process development work of four individual plant junior ceramic engineers in new color glaze development and glaze process improvement projects in a dotted line reporting relationship.
4.Provide training and technical support to the junior color ceramic engineers in all aspects of glaze and color processes.
5.Undertake assigned projects relating to Vitreous ware manufacturing operations primarily in glaze testing, glaze formulations, casting specifications, and problem-solving to improve the quality control of the glaze process. Develop benchmarks to measure each project's contribution to yield, productivity, or other categories of cost reduction.
6.Coordinating with engineers, recommend to appropriate supervision additional projects, which should be targeted for implementation.
7.Provide technical assistance and training as required to operating departments.
8.Develop and maintain an awareness of innovations in technology, which might be adapted to manufacturing operations.
9.Assist in the development of improved procedures for new product introduction.
10.Engage in process improvement using available problem solving.
11.Assist operations with the development of robust quality systems, related to glaze processing, supporting bill of process and operations certification programs.
12.Work on special projects to support other Kohler Co. potteries when needed and requested.
13.Maintains awareness of relevant product technologies and improves technical skills.
14.Perform all other duties as required by supervisor.
RELATIONSHIPS & CONTACTS
Supervisory Relationships:
1.Solid Line Reporting relationship to Director-Vitreous Process Engineering
Organization Relationships:
Frequent contact with the glaze engineers at each plant
Frequent contact with all members of new color and artist editions project teams including Marketing, Industrial Design, Engineering, Platform Management, Accounting and Quality.
Frequent contact with all Vitreous Manufacturing Supervision
Frequent contact with Product and Process Engineering
Maintains contact with Regional Group Engineering and Manufacturing Support for coordination and implementation of new product and method changes
Periodic contact with the Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality Departments of the Kohler Potteries
External Business Relationships:
Contact with vendors of ceramic materials and manufacturing supplies.
Attends meetings and seminars to gain information on technological advances in the industry.
May support Glaze / Ceramic Recruiting at universities
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science Degree in Ceramic Engineering (or equivalent) is required with at least 3 years of manufacturing experience in Whitewares glazes and color control.
1.Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Ceramic Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program.
2.5 or more years of related work experience or advanced technical degree with 3 or more years work experience in the field of ceramic manufacturing
3.History of successful technical leadership and process improvement.
4.Multiple language skills will be considered an added benefit. Ability to communicate clearly in English (speak, read, and write) is essential.
5.Candidate should have Ceramic Process Engineering background (GLAZE / COLOR) and be willing to travel 75% of the time.
