Basic Function
Responsible for physical distribution network planning within Kohler Co. Provide leadership, direction and finacial justification on the implementation of cost-effective transportation and logistics (freight and warehousing) solutions to meet the needs of all business units. This includes analyzing freight and warehousing activity data for Kohler businesses and making recommendations for the physical location of distribution centers, regional hubs and/or manufacturing facilities that meet or exceed defined customer service delivery levels for all divisions of the Kohler Company.

Identifies and leads cross-business strategic initiatives for Supply Chain optimization, service execution and visibility improvements. This includes operational analyses, systems integration, and fuctional implementation guidance for all business units. Latitude exists for independent action and decision-making in the context of project leadership.

Specific Responsibilities
Plan, develop, and analyze computer simulated physical distribution network models for inbound and outbound transportation, storage and flow-through requirements to and from manufacturing, warehousing, supplier and customer locations.

Collaborate and provide expertise to business unit Supply Chain organizations, determine network distribution strategy and recommend changes as needed to achieve economic and customer service objectives. Advise global businesses as directed by executive leadership.

Implement flexible network strategies to optimize global and local business unit supply chains. Evaluate, recommend and champion best-in-class tools/programs to perform Transportation & Logistics functions such as transportation management software, load planning techniques/software network/route planning and warehouse management or configuration processes/software.

Responsible for key metric identification and best practice design, to include monthly reporting on activity and expenses. For example, cost per mile and per equivalent cube, cube utilization, and average number of stops per shipment, rate and volume variances-to-projection, and similar metrics for international freight.

Forecast transportation network usage; develop short and long range plans for physical Supply Chain network and applications/systems. Coordinate with and advise users in regard to services available to meet their new and ongoing network planning needs.

Plan and develop alternative and backup network solutions and services for significant Supply Chain disruptions such as boarder closings, natural disasters or policial restrictions on a global basis

Support business case development as required to quantify Transportation & Logistics functional initiatvies. Support the justification of future T&L investments and improvements and support the Global Transportation & Logistics Council.

Attend trade shows and seminars to remain aware of emerging technologies; evaluate and recommend improvements where significant operating and/or cost advantages are indicated. Participate in professional organizations to gain knowledge of technology and issues related to the Transportation & Logistics industry.

Education and Experience
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial or Operations Research) and eight to ten years experience in transporation and logistics network planning. Masters degree a plus. Professional demeanor and strong planning, organization, analytical and computer skills are required.
Must be familiar with current network optimization software tools.
