BASIC FUNCTION
Perform engineering activities for current product and quality projects. Responsible for engineering robustly designed, elegant, easy to clean, easy to install, easy to use, long lasting, attractive and cost effective product that exceeds our customers' expectations in every aspect. Provide technical direction for product deisgn, quality, cost reduction, warranty reduction and product improvement projects. This position requires technical innovation as well as project management, deisgn, analysis, development, and testing of products and components.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Function
Responsible for engineering assignments involving current products and value engineering initiatives to provide improved performance at lower cost.

Establish, update and maintain product specifications, including all meaningful details pertinent for product requirements, regulatory considerations, and marketing/sales considerations.

Responsible for some engineering assignments involving new products.

Assure functional acceptability through testing and analysis.

Prepare drawings and documentation needed to define or update the product design.

Assist in the preparation of product cost information for new and updated products.

Demonstrate working knowledge of CAD, GD&T, six-sigma, manufacturing process constraints, and BOM creation.

Project manages some current product efforts on designated initiatives including maintenance of timelines, budgets, and metrics.

Monitors and takes appropriate corrective action to current products with quality or non-conforming materials issues.

Accumulate data from other engineering groups and outside technical consultants, technical publications and records, outside suppliers, customers, end users, related tradesmen, and public and private agencies, related to production capability, product design safety, product reliability, production cost and lead times, component availability, material selection, product codes, governmental regulation, installation parameters, usage requirements, patents.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Supervisory Relationships:
Reports to Engineering Manager/Portfolio Manager - Kallista.

Organization Relationships:
Daily contact with Marketing, Industrial Design, and Purchasing to insure Project timing, design intent, and customer requirements are obtained.

Frequent contact with Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing to ensure all product requirements are met. (Aesthetics, ergonomics, timing, cost, manufacturability, performance, etc.)

Frequent contact with Sales, Customer Service and the end customer to assure understanding of product requirements.

Frequent contact with Product Labs to communicate test requirements and monitor test progress.

Frequent contact with Codes and Standards to ensure product requirements are being met.

Contact with Model Shop and Prototyping centers to communicate prototype requirements and monitor progress.

Some contact with Legal with reference to patent applications, infringements, and defective product litigation.

Some contact with Accounting, Corporate Management, and other company groups as required.

External Business Relationships:
As needed, contact with suppliers / consultants to exchange information regarding component status, costs, design or timing.

As appropriate, attend Engineering / manufacturing trade shows and seminars to investigate new materials, products and processes.

Has occasional travel to troubleshoot and research product issues with a varied customer base.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
An ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with solid intern/co-op experiences and/or one to two years' related product design and development experience. Working knowlege with a CAD system ( Pro-E preferred ) is desirable. Experience with SA
