Coordinate safety, industrial hygiene and environmental compliance. Key responsibilities include managing activities of the safety committee and safety teams, accident investigations, ergonomic improvement projects, workers compensation case management, overseeing the light duty program, emergency response planning, coordinating/conducting safety and environmental training, and updating the Pottery safety intranet site.


Lead the implementation of the KSMS.
Coordinate activities of Pottery Safety Committee.
Facilitate and participate in safety team projects.
Conduct accident investigations to identify root causes and to identify opportunities for accident prevention. Ensure follow-up to noted deficiencies.
Champion on-going ergonomic improvement projects. Provide project management related to ergonomic improvements, workstation layout, and correction of unsafe working conditions.
Serve as liaison between Pottery and Medical Dept. on Worker's compensation case management.
Supervise Light Duty and associates currently in the program.
Ensure required emergency response planning has been conducted and implemented.
Coordinate/conduct and document safety and environmental training programs. This Includes providing a safety orientation for all new associates.
Compile monthly safety reports, including incident rate calculations and monthly accident reports.
Oversee content development for Pottery Safety intranet site.
Coordinate exposure monitoring schedules. Act as divisional liaison to production supervision and personnel for exposure monitoring results, recommendations, and control strategies.
Coordinate and conduct respirator fit testing/training activities annually and for new/transfer associates.
Maintain and coordinate records of employee safety training.
Oversee Hazard Communication Program, including coordinating annual chemical inventory listings and maintenance of MSDSs.
Coordinate asbestos abatement projects.
Ensure environmental regulatory compliance. Assist EHS with annual reporting requirements.
Assist EHS with reports for regulatory agencies.
Oversee all Pottery Division activities that may impact the environment and communicate such activities to EE&S. Initiate project reviews for these activities.
Obtain and distribute safety related promotional material (i.e. posters, check stuffers and mailings) within the division.
Publish an article for the bi-monthly Pottery newsletter.


Supervisory Relationships:

Reports to Superintendent-WI Pottery.

Organizational Relationships:

Has frequent contact with hourly employees, supervision and management within the Pottery Division regarding safety and health impact of operations and planned changes.

Has frequent contact with the EHS and Medical regarding health and safety affairs within the Pottery Division. Will include active participation on project teams.

Has occasional contact with the following departments: Purchasing, Corporate HR, and Legal.

External Business Relationships:

Has secondary contact with regulatory agencies. Primary contact is through the EHS.

Has occasional contact with contractors.


BS Degree in safety, environmental, or industrial engineering disciplines or Associate Degree in safety and/or environmental engineering discipline, plus some experience in safety program management. Must communicate well, both in writing and orally. Must be able to use these communication skills with both management and production personnel. Personal computer experience, computer literacy essential.
