BASIC FUNCTION

Technical design and direction of major capital and/or process improvement projects. Performs assignments of a complicated or difficult nature requiring a high degree of technical competence. This position requires a high level of technical skill in the areas of project organization, design, analysis, and Implementation of solutions to complex technical problems.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Determines the technical feasibility of capital project or process improvement concepts. Prepares detailed project plans including technical objectives and alternatives, schedule, equipment layouts, project cost estimates, and estimated benefit to Kohler Company.

2.Directs and coordinates all work by engineers, support personnel, and outside groups involving project concepts and alternatives, development, drafting, prototype work if required, and implementation of projects. Works closely with process owners to assure a smooth transition to production.

3.Design new and redesign existing equipment and processes to improve quality, line speeds, and productivity to support the cost reduction goals of the division. Participate in management strategy sessions to support and implement Kohler Operating System (KOS) objectives.

4.Counsels and trains less senior engineers and technical support personnel in technical areas as required.

5.Maintains project records and prepares technical, cost, and other reports to show project progress as required.

6.Contributes sound professional advice and creative ideas, concepts, and approaches to process owners and KOS / project teams.

7.Keeps abreast of new technologies and products relative to Kohler Cast Iron Division.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships:

1.Reports to Supervisor Major Capital Project Support.

2.Provides technical direction to and coordination of activities of other engineers and technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects.

Organizational Relationships:

1.Direct interaction with business unit senior/executive management on technical matters regarding assigned or potential projects.

2.Regular interaction with other engineering groups and process owners regarding assigned or potential projects.

External Relationships:

1.Regular contact with vendors and machine designers regarding equipment specifications, manufacturing, or design capabilities.

2.Occasionally attend engineering and trade shows and seminars to investigate new products, processes, and materials, and in general to improve overall knowledge.

3.Support projects outside of the Cast Iron division including Reynosa Mexico, Noyon France, and Shanghai China.

LEVEL OF SKILL

A Staff Engineer possesses a high level of technical and management skills necessary to complete projects. No technical supervision is required. The ability to direct the activities of other support personnel to meet project objectives is very important. Direct supervisory responsibility of a project team is likely within this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program, or a PE license, with twelve to fifteen years of work experience. Past results include successful technical leadership on multiple major projects. Particular skills and experiences required include Mechanical and HVAC Engineering work back ground. A minimum of 6 years experience as a project leader in this area is required.
