Manager, Media Relations

The person filling this position will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of a media strategy for showcasing business success stories, managing issues and other related efforts and initiatives. Additionally, the candidate performing this role will create and maintain relationships with media, research and write news releases, develop story ideas, assist with message development and serve as backup Resort spokesperson. The candidate must possess superior writing abilities; have experience at handling controversies and a successful track record of working with news media. The role requires the ability to communicate at all levels within and outside the organization, and to think strategically and to operate proactively in a fast-changing business environment with quick deadlines. The position supervises a Senior Representative, Public Affairs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Represent Disneyland Resort through proactive media relations, issues management and public affairs efforts. Identify and manage current and potential issues related to Disneyland Resort business affairs. Lead Spanish language media outreach efforts for Disneyland Resort. Help build strong third-party allies and maintain media key external media relationships that are relevant to our business. Participate in 24-hr/7-day week on-call availability and serve as a member of the Disneyland Resort’s Emergency Communication Team to effectively respond to a crisis situation. Promote key company image drivers such as a community relations, diversity, employee relations, safety initiatives, business practices and conservation initiatives

Assist in the development and implementation of strategic communication plans
Identify, develop and pitch story ideas that showcase business successes
Research and produce news releases, fact sheets, executive bios and other media materials
Build and maintain relationships with media
Update crisis communications plan
Develop relationships with key internal partners

Required experience:

B.A./B.S.
5-7 years in Journalism/Communications
Superior writing abilities
Former experience with a newspaper or broadcast media
Strong verbal and presentation skills
Leadership and partnering experience
