Description:
Parsons, named the top Engineering & Construction firm in InformationWeek’s annual ranking of the 500 most innovative users of technology, and one of the largest employee-owned engineering and construction companies in the world, is seeking a professionally licensed Highway Design Engineer in our Washington, DC office.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Lead a design team and/or manage the completion of a wide variety of proposals, preliminary and final design reports, drawings, specifications, and estimates for the construction of public highway systems. The Engineer at this level is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of highway engineering design standards and practices. Some assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. Willingness to travel to supplier, client, or construction site locations is expected.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Team leader and/or project manager which independently develops and/or supervises the creation of engineering products that meet customer quality requirements. This includes proposal development, defining the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, project coordination/execution, and reporting the work status.
Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.
Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.
Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. Frequently interfaces with other Engineering disciplines as well as other departments.
May supervise one or more subordinates and provide input regarding performance.
Provides technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
• 4-year degree in Civil Engineering and 8-12 years of related work experience in the design of public transportation projects. Professional Engineering registration is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microstation, GEOPAK and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is required.
• Good communication skills (both oral and written) and ability to work within a team environment is required.
• Highway drainage design experience a plus.
• Traffic signal, signing, and/or lighting design experience a plus.
