Job Title: Post Engineer
Department: Post Production Engineering
Reports To: Manager of Post Engineering

Position Summary:

  • Install, configure, maintain and support nonlinear editing, content creation, and storage system software and hardware.

  • Install, configure, maintain and support system infrastructure wiring and hardware.


  • Establish and maintain network directory structures for operational personnel to locate, open and generate media files. Assist end users with data backup and retrieval issues.

  • Generate and maintain technical documentation that will be useful to those who follow in similar positions and to those who operate the software and equipment in day to day production. Generate and maintain serial number databases, SOPs and shift logs for tracking problems and resolutions.

  • Thoroughly understand NLE and graphics software so as to provide competent end user technical support. Maintain communication with technical support departments of vendors to resolve problems and feature requests. Track licenses, serial numbers and deploy software upgrades as appropriate. Maintain network rendering system.

  • Install, configure and maintain system infrastructure such as routers, DAs, and signal conversion devices. Maintain a working knowledge of hardware and software including but not limited to Pesa, Tascam, Yamaha, AJA, Black Magic, Avid, Apple, HP, Sony and Seachange.

  • Perform PC and Mac configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting in regard to video and audio interfaces to tape decks, network connectivity, operating system updates and security.

  • Perform command line operations on Unix based systems for purposes of navigation, testing and troubleshooting.

  • Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot tape decks of any format.

    Job Related Experience:

  • At least 5 years experience with post production hardware and software, particularly content generation and transformation applications from companies such as Autodesk, Avid, Apple, Adobe, Telestream, Sorenson, and Anystream.

  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of various media tape and file formats such as VBI, closed captioning, frame rates, pixel dimensions, aspect ratios, bit rates, color space, GOP structure, metadata packaging and differences in video standards.

  • Installation, configuration and end user technical support of Final Cut, Discreet, Avid Media Composer, ProTools and Unity systems.

  • Thorough familiarity with IP addressing, file and directory permissions and networking concepts and terminology.

  • In depth knowledge of system layout and design, and audio, video and control wiring conventions and procedures.

    Job Related Education:

  • AA or above degree in Electronics, Film and Television Production, Computer Graphics or Computer science or equivalent work experience.

  • Avid, Apple, Sony, Linux, or A+ certifications are a plus.
