Storage Engineer
DHCP,DNS,TCP/IP,Unix,SAN,CAPACITY PLANNING

Utility experience a nice to have

operate as a member of the team which supports the various functions of corporate information technology storage group. Responsibilities include supporting the IT department's Storage (SAN), Backup, and Capacity and Performance services.

Position reports to a supervisor.
may lead or coordinate the work of others for specific projects, but operates mostly as a team member. Position has regular contact with peers in the IT Department and in business areas.

. Provides advanced technical support and design for enterprise backup solutions.
. Provides advanced technical support and design for enterprise SAN and storage solutions.
. Performs or supervises the hardware refresh cycles and code upgrades for the SAN and Backup related infrastructure.
. Resolves Backup and SAN related problems by gathering diagnostic information for submission to vendor support teams, applying and testing fixes, and performing production corrective maintenance.
. Supports software upgrades of the SAN and Backup software systems, and all of the client software running on the 800-plus servers in client environment.
. Works closely with both the UNIX and Windows server teams to provide technical design and troubleshooting support for server-related SAN and Backup issues.
. Assists with the monitoring of nightly backup jobs to ensure their success.
. Performs daily SAN and Backup related tasks such as storage provisioning and adding new systems to storage and backup solutions.
. Provides advanced technical support for the group's Capacity and Performance support services.
. Acts as a liaison between clients and other IT support staff and/or third party vendors to perform these functions.
. Collects, analyzes and summarizes information from various tools in order to help other IT groups work through different Capacity or Performance related issues. This includes the daily review of IT infrastructure capacity and performance related reports.
. Ensures proper documentation of all installed software/hardware to comply with departmental and corporate guidelines.
. Periodically provides support to other infrastructure areas as needed to assist in maintaining the corporate IT infrastructure.
. Periodically assesses the feasibility of proposed IT projects, products, or equipment in order to support the overall IT function at client site.



. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline preferred; or equivalent work experience and technical training.
. 4 or more years experience in information systems
. 4 or more years experience supporting enterprise level Storage, SAN Fabric and Backup solutions.
. 4 or more years experience supporting an enterprise level Backup solution.
. Experience supporting either UNIX or Windows server operating systems.
. Solid understanding of enterprise server and networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS, Directory Services, etc.
. Experience working with IT support staff and third-party vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems and implement corrective measures.
. Ability and willingness to work extended hours or modified schedule for planned or emergency work.
. Ability and willingness to carry a pager or cell phone as required.
. Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations, primarily Delaware and Maryland.
. Must successfully pass the Criminal History Records Check.
. Must possess a valid driver's license.


. Experience administering EMC's Symmetrix/DMX or other EMC storage solutions, including the EMC's replication (SRDF), cloning (Timefinder) software and other storage array features.
. Experience administering Cisco's 9513 Fiber Channel switches or similar director class switches.
. Experience supporting SAN management tools including EMC's Control Center, Solutions Enabler, Storage Scope, Performance Manager and Symmetrix Management Console and Cisco's Fabric and Device Manager software.
. Experience supporting and installing SAN-related host based software including EMC's powerpath, Emulex's HBA software/firmware, and Symantec's Storage Foundations volume manager software.
. Experience administering Symantec's Netbackup 6.5 software in conjunction with both Data Domain DD690 disk units and Sun/STK SL8500 tape libraries.
. Experience using host-based backup clients and tools in a Sun Solaris/Oracle and Windows SQL environment.
. Exposure to RMAN or other Oracle related backup technologies.
. Experience using Aptare's Storage Console Backup Manager product.
. Experience supporting VMWare from a storage and backup perspective.
. Any exposure to, or experience with, the following Capacity Planning and Performance Monitoring tools including CA's (formerly Concord's) EHealth product, HP's (formerly Mercury's) Loadrunner/Winrunner stress testing tools, Opnet's ACE network performance monitoring tools and/or any general experience with packet capture/analysis tools.
. Experience using Computer Associate's Spectrum product.
. Exposure to Disaster Recovery Planning and Management.
